Our School Councils

FARNHAM SCHOOL COUNCIL

We meet once a fortnight on Monday lunchtime and each Year Group has one representative who is voted for by their peers in a secret ballot. We serve for 1½ terms with elections being held in September and February. We have a suggestion box for items that others want to be raised and hold class meetings where we can report back what we have discussed at our meetings. This year we have looked at: playground equipment, school dinners, fundraising and the playscape.

In September the KS2 representatives attended the Uttlesford Consortium School Conference where we looked at different ways to be an effective School Council.

Our fundraising events have included: cake sales, talent shows, film sessions and second-hand toy/book sales. Previously we have sponsored a child in Uganda and supported several charities including The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Saffron Walden Talking Newspaper. At the moment we are busy getting ready for our version of Strictly Come Dancing and The Great British Bake Off in aid Comic Relief.

RICKLING SCHOOL COUNCIL

Our School Council have meetings once a fortnight at Tuesday break time. Each year group have a representative, this is voted for by peers of their class. Every September a new representative from each year group is chosen.

Each member of the council has a specific role. We have one chairperson, one vice chairperson, two treasurers and two secretaries. Despite having specific roles, the children all work together and help each other to achieve goals in which they have.

In March 2018, the council became members of the Bishops Stortford Pupil Voice Network. This is a brand new initiative in Bishops Stortford, with the aim of giving local pupils a voice. The network has many exciting ideas planned, including a trip to parliament and impacting the events of the 2019 Bishops Stortford Carnival.

In the past we have hosted cake sales, and during Children In Need Week we raised £373. In the future, we are aiming to raise further money for charity, and we are looking at the possibility of introducing a calm zone in the playground.
